Agriculture

Agriculture has always been the mainstay of the Indian economy, although its share has been declining in recent years. This sector employs more than two-thirds of the labour force and has vital supply and demand links with the industrial sector.

Farming, one of the oldest professions known to man, has somehow been relegated to the position of non-interest for the educated middle classes. It is widely believed that farming requires no formal training, and is therefore only suitable for the uneducated and illiterate.

With the increasing demand , better profitability and potential global market for processed foods, fruits and flowers, there should continue to be a demand for qualified people in this all-important sector.

Beauty and Hair Care

With larger numbers of women entering the work place, the need to appear well groomed and attractive has assumed greater importance, not just for women, but also for men. Moreover, the complexities of modern living leave little time for personal grooming, causing more people to turn increasingly to professionals for treatments that enhance and maintain their looks. This has resulted in a burgeoning of beauty products and beauty treatments, turning beauty care or cosmetology into a 100 crore industry.

Those who have completed a course in beauty and hair care can work in a salon or beauty parlour. With the fast growth of the cosmetics business and the entry of international brands using interested and trained housewives to explain and market their wares, there is much scope in the sales and marketing of beauty and skin care products too. Working at a health club or fitness centre is also a growing career option as the number of these institutes double every year. Make-up artists are also much in demand with the growth of television.

Traditionally, call centres meant only voice-based customer support. But now most call centres are more of a contact centre, offering e-CRM services, that include voice based customer support as well as e-mail response, web-based text-chat services and other customer interaction channels. The call centre services can be 'inbound' where in calls are received from customers enquiring about a service or product that an organisation provides. The call centre services can be 'outbound' where in calls are made to customers to sell products or collect information/money etc. Call centre services can also 'specialised' say in business processing where in calls are made from one company to another company.

There is a great scope for Call centres in India. The large population of educated English speaking people and the comparative low cost are encouraging more and more companies from abroad /inland to base or outsource their call centres to India.
